Cyber Language. :)

Cyber language, also known as Netspeak, is the language of cyberspace, or the realm of electronic communication. It is commonly used in electronic mail; Internet chat rooms, which allow computer users to communicate with each other in real time; and in text messages sent between cellular phones using the short message service, or SMS.

Examples

  • An abbreviation (from Latin brevis, meaning short) is a shortened form of a word or phrase. Usually, but not always, it consists of a letter or group of letters taken from the word or phrase.

A smiley is an arrangement of keyboard characters used to make facial expressions and gestures that are intended to convey emotion online (in e-mails, forums and chat rooms). In other words, it is a symbolic picture made from keyboard characters.

Adults tend to view the Internet as a practical tool, while teenagers may see it as a social networking tool. Teenagers can develop technological skills faster than critical thinking and judgment skills, and by using cyber language they create a generation gap, communicating with their peers in a way that can't be understood by their parents or other adults. Some educators question whether cyber language encourages teenagers to develop new communication and literacy skills or, in fact, causes them to lose some of the skills they already have. What do you think ?
